Dr. Veronica Mubo Amaku’s Profile:
Dr. Veronica Amaku is the first of five orphaned children born to a polygamous family in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Having lost her parents at an early age, Dr. Amaku had to learn to be responsible, independent and tenacious. She obtained both her Bachelor's and Master’s degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, where she also got saved in 1983. After her education, she left for the United States to join her husband, Dr. Samuel Amaku. Once in the U.S., she proceeded to do another Masters degree in Microbiology, and later obtained a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology.
Professionally, Dr. Amaku is an educator and a research scientist. She has taught public school science up to graduate level in the University. She has also done research in such notable laboratories as Drug Research & Production Unit, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria; Lawrence Berkeley Research Laboratory, Berkeley, California; and NASA URC Center for Bionanotechnology and Environmental Research, Houston, TX. She has received several awards, some of which are: President’s Teaching Excellence Award and Who is Who among American Teachers, 2005 and 2006. She was distinguished as one of the leading women achievers from around the United States with an award by Marquis Who’s Who among American Women, 2007 & 2008. In 2007, she was awarded a sabbatical appointment as a senior research adviser with a Company in Nigeria.
Dr. Amaku is an ordained pastor. She is an anointed woman of God with a special gift in teaching, healing and encouragement. She can confidently say, “I am what I am, by the Grace and Mercy of God.” She is happily married, and with her husband, they are blessed with five children.
